Trouble Sleeping
Insomnia or a good nights sleep - what would you prefer?
Hypnotherapy in Benfleet could help you to deal with disruptive sleep patterns
Insomnia is when you have a problem getting to sleep or staying asleep long enough to wake up feel refreshed the next morning - this generally happens despite having enough opportunity to get to sleep.
Good quality sleep is essential to you to help ensure a healthy body and mind and for your emotional wellbeing.
Insomniacs may experience:
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Waking up in the night
- Not feeling refreshed after sleeping (and consequently not being able to function normally during the day, feeling anxious, irritable or tired and finding it hard to concentrate)
- Waking too early in the morning
Most people will have problems sleeping at some point in their life. Insomnia appears to be more common in women and more likely to occur as you get older, but problems sleeping can affect anyone at any age.
There are a number of reasons you might suffer with insomnia, such as stress or anxiety, a disrupted sleeping environment
(too bright, too noisy etc), too many stimuli (caffeine, smoking, medication
etc) or an underlying physical condition or mental health problem. You should always
consult your GP first to rule out any medical conditions which may need to be addressed. However if your GP is happy for you to proceed with hypnotherapy as a
complementary therapy for insomnia then maybe it
could help!
As hypnotherapy involves
hypnosis combined with relaxation, which obviously is one of the key elements in falling asleep easily, it can often prove a very useful tool in helping to deal with insomnia.
I can teach you visualisation techniques to help you to relax physically and mentally. If there are underlying emotional reasons for your sleep problems then hypnotherapy could help you to address and deal with these.
The less stressed you are the better for you!

Am I Sleeping Enough at Night?
Everyone is different, so it is hard to say what normal sleep is for any one individual. Your age, lifestyle, diet and environment are all important factors which affect the amount of sleep you need. For
example, a newborn baby might sleep for up to 16 hours a day, while a school-age child might need (on average) 10 hours sleep.
Most healthy, average adults sleep for seven to nine hours per night. As people get older, then tend to need less sleep and are lighter sleepers. A lot of people over 70 need less than six hours sleep a night.
Often people who suffer with insomnia may have "forgotten" how to really relax; hypnosis could help you rediscover this feeling and once you have found this calm and relaxing state again
it becomes very much easier to build upon and recreate for yourself.
